Branko Radicevic - When I bethought of dying

The leaves are already yellowing on the trees,

Yellow leaves are already falling down,

I won't live to see them green again.

My head is falling down, my face darkened,

Sickness drank my eyes up,

My arm feels broken, my body is tired,

And my knees are weak!

It's time for me to go to my grave.

Farewell, wheat, my beautiful dream!

Farewell, dawn, farewell bright day!

Farewell, world, which once was Heaven,

I am now destined to meet another place.

Oh, if I hadn't loved you so strongly,

I'd still be looking at your bright sun.

I'd still be listening to thunder, listening to storms,

I'd still be amazed by your nightingales,

By your song and your wells,

My life's source is now at twist!

My songs, my poor orphans,

Wonderful children of my young years!

I wanted to take the rainbow down from the sky,

I wanted to dress you all up in a long, nice cloth

I wanted to put bright stars all over you,

I wanted you to shine with the rays I'd give you.

The rainbow appeared, but then vanished

The stars shined, but then burned out

And even the shiny Sun

fell from the sky!

Everything that I could have given you vanished,

so your father must leave you with nothing.
